Alimini Beach

A long sandy shoreline north of Otranto, backed by dunes and pine forest and known for shallow water. Access, parking and services vary greatly along the coast.

Alimini: what to know before choosing your section

Alimini is not one entrance: choose the section according to parking, free beach, services, accessibility and sea conditions.

Six kilometres of very fine sand

The regional tourism portal describes a long sandy beach backed by dunes and pine forest, with free sections alternating with beach clubs.

Good to know

Choose the sector before travelling: “Alimini” covers several kilometres, not one entrance.

Very shallow water is a major family advantage

The official regional guide highlights very shallow seabeds and transparent water.

For children

Shallow does not mean risk-free: wind, waves and currents still matter.

One of the easier choices for families near Otranto

Fine sand, gradual water entry and services in many sectors make the day easier with children.

Practical choice

Prioritise a convenient access and parking point rather than only the most photogenic sector.

Access varies along the coast

From the SP366 side, different paths cross the strip of pine forest and dunes towards the beach.

Access

With a pushchair or lots of equipment, select a practical entrance and stay on authorised paths.

There is no single “Alimini car park”

Otranto has seasonal parking regulation and the long shoreline is served by different access points.

Parking

Follow the signs for your chosen sector and check current fees and rules.

Free beach and many beach clubs

Alimini lets you choose between independent free-beach days and equipped sectors with seasonal services.

Services

For free beach bring shade and water; for a club check booking and actual facilities.

Municipality lists JOB chairs near 2 Laghi

Otranto Municipality lists a free-beach point at Alimini near Lido 2 Laghi among locations with JOB amphibious chairs.

Accessibility

Check current seasonal availability and the exact route from parking to the shore before leaving.

Young visitors and water sports

The regional tourism portal specifically mentions surfers, while the long beach offers both lively and quieter sectors.

For active visitors

Use designated areas and respect swimmers, weather and local rules.

The lakes behind the beach are not bathing waters

The beach takes its name from the Alimini Lakes, separated from the sea by dunes and pine forest; the regional guide states the lakes are not for bathing.

Nature

Use designated dune crossings and swim in the sea, not in the lakes.

March 2026: partial collapse at Torre Fiumicelli

ANSA reported a new partial collapse of the historic ruin between Frassanito and Alimini; a 30-metre safety zone was ordered.

2026 update

This is a localised restriction, not closure of all Alimini. Respect barriers around the ruin.

April 2026: seizure affected one concession area

About 4,000 m² of one state-owned concession area was seized over unauthorised sand movement and diversion of a natural watercourse.

2026 update

Do not read this as “Alimini closed”: the measure concerned a specific concession in a protected Natura 2000 area.

Otranto–Alimini cycle-path works are in procurement

In July 2026 the municipality published a procedure for awarding the cycle-path works.

Mobility

Do not assume the route is already completed; check current works status before planning a bike arrival.

What to bring

Sun protection, water, a hat and shade if using the free beach. Keep children’s gear easy to carry.

Pack sensibly

Use designated crossings and never drag equipment across protected dunes.
