Punta Pizzo is a mainly rocky headland hiding small sandy coves and opening onto a long beach reached through the pine woods.

The resort includes Spiaggia di Punta del Pizzo and Spiaggia di Posto Li Sorci.

The coastal tower

Torre del Pizzo was built in 1569 as part of the defensive system of the Salento coast.

It was once known as Torre di Catriero or Cutreri. The distinctive triangular projection above the entrance is linked to the name by which it is known today.

The natural park

The coastline belongs to the Isola di Sant’Andrea and Punta Pizzo Coast Regional Natural Park.

The protected area preserves Mediterranean scrub, pine woods, wetlands, rocky coast and numerous plant and animal species.

Punta del Pizzo Beach is one of the bathing sectors on the protected Punta Pizzo coastline, where sand and rock alternate. It should not be confused with nearby private beach clubs: free sections exist, while access, parking and services may be separate. The seabed is not uniform, so choose the entry point carefully with children.

Torre del Pizzo is the 16th-century coastal tower overlooking the namesake headland in Gallipoli’s regional park. Italy’s Ministry of Culture records its completion in 1569 and its distinctive truncated-cone and cylindrical form. The tower is privately held, so this guide assumes exterior viewing only.
