Torre Lapillo Beach on the Porto Cesareo coast in Puglia
Puglia · Salento · Ionian coast · Porto Cesareo

Torre Lapillo Beach

More than four kilometres of pale sand, long public stretches alternating with beach clubs and a shallow sandy seabed: one of the easiest beaches to love, but also one of the busiest in peak summer.

What to know before going to Torre Lapillo Beach

Three things matter most here: choosing your stretch of beach, planning parking or the shuttle, and knowing how busy it can get. The sea itself is one of the location’s strongest points.

A long beach, not a small cove

Torre Lapillo Beach stretches for more than four kilometres north of Porto Cesareo. The sand is pale and very fine, with beach clubs alternating with long public/free-access stretches.

Good to know

If you want a public stretch, you are not limited to one tiny access point: there are several sections, although the most central ones fill quickly in peak season.

Clear water and a shallow sandy seabed

The seabed is mainly sandy and stays shallow for several metres in many areas. The water is known for its clear turquoise shades, making Torre Lapillo popular with people who prefer a gradual entry into the sea.

Caution

Shallow water does not mean the sea is always safe: wind, waves and currents can change conditions quickly. Always assess the sea in front of you before entering.

Families and children

Fine sand and generally shallow water make this beach especially popular with families. At peak times, however, the shoreline can become very crowded and moving around with pushchairs or bulky equipment is less convenient.

Practical tip

With small children, arriving early gives you more choice and lets you settle in before the busiest hours.

Parking and the 2026 municipal shuttle

In July and August, finding a space close to the central accesses can be difficult. We did not find one official 2026 municipal parking rate applying to every parking area, so check local signs and meters. As an alternative, the municipal shuttle runs from 13 June to 20 September 2026: Line 2 links Porto Cesareo and the western coast road with Torre Lapillo, including stops at Lidi Torre Lapillo, Chiesa dell’Assunta, Fontana della Poesia and Torre Lapillo.

2026 shuttle fare

A single ride costs €1.00 and is valid for 90 minutes; the day ticket costs €2.50. Check the official service for current times and stops before travelling.

Accessibility: IO POSSO in Via Paganini

The whole four-kilometre beach cannot be described as uniformly accessible because access conditions vary. For people with mobility needs, Torre Lapillo has the free IO POSSO accessible beach service in Via Paganini. In 2026 it operates from 14 June to 13 September, 9:30–19:00, with four places in total and dedicated bathing aids.

Booking required

Telephone booking is compulsory. The Torre Lapillo number published by IO POSSO is 351 5276897; the service is free for guests and their companions.

Bars, food and services

Torre Lapillo is an inhabited resort and the equipped stretches provide beach services; food and drink businesses are also available along the coast and in the town. On public stretches, however, the distance to a bar or facilities varies considerably depending on where you settle.

Practical tip

On a public stretch, bring at least water, sun protection and what you need for a few hours rather than assuming a service will be directly behind your umbrella.

Crowds: the main drawback in high season

Torre Lapillo is very well known and the easiest sections can become extremely busy in July and especially in the central weeks of August. Its location beside the built-up area adds even more beachgoers during the middle of the day.

Best time

For more space, go early in the morning or choose June and September if you can. At midday in August, do not expect easy parking or a quiet beach.

Dunes and protected sea

The shoreline is part of Porto Cesareo’s wider environmental system, facing the Marine Protected Area and close to the protected landscapes of Palude del Conte and the coastal dunes. Delicate dune habitats remain behind some stretches of beach.

Use existing access points

Use marked or existing paths, do not cross protected dunes and take your rubbish away. Torre Lapillo’s appeal also depends on preserving these environments.

Not only families: young crowds, aperitivo and music too

Torre Lapillo is not only a family beach. Several beach clubs along the coast also attract groups of young people and some combine a day at the sea with bars, aperitivo and music: Bacino Grande, for example, states on its official website that its bar also opens in the evening with live music.

Choose the atmosphere

For a quieter day choose mornings and free stretches; for socialising, aperitivo and a younger atmosphere, consider the beach clubs and check the day’s programme.

Who it suits

A strong choice for families, lovers of fine sand, people who prefer generally shallow water, and anyone who wants to combine public beach stretches with the option of beach-club services without giving up very clear water.

In short

If sand, shallow water and an easy full beach day are your priorities, Torre Lapillo is one of the most complete options around Porto Cesareo.

Less suitable for

It is less suitable if you want silence, isolation, natural shade or certainty of parking a few metres from the sand at midday in August. On the busiest days the experience can be very different from low season.

Consider this

If peace and quiet are your priority, choose a less crowded period or arrive very early.

What to bring

For a public stretch, bring an umbrella or other sun protection, water, sunscreen, a hat and equipment that is easy to carry. Water shoes are normally unnecessary on the sandy sections.

Practical tip

If you arrive by car in high season, travelling light helps when the available parking is not immediately beside your chosen section.

Where Torre Lapillo Beach is

Torre Lapillo is a very long beach: the marker shows a representative central point, not a single compulsory entrance. Use the map to orient yourself, then choose a section based on parking, services and crowds.

Frequently asked questions about Torre Lapillo Beach

Quick answers to the most useful questions before planning your day at the beach.

Is Torre Lapillo a public/free beach?
Yes. The beach stretches for more than four kilometres, with beach clubs alternating with long public/free-access sections.
What is the seabed like at Torre Lapillo?
It is mainly sandy and stays shallow for several metres in many areas, with a generally gradual entry. Wind, waves and currents can still change conditions.
Is Torre Lapillo suitable for children?
It is very popular with families because of the fine sand and generally shallow seabed. In high season, arriving early gives you more space and a better choice of where to settle.
Where can I park at Torre Lapillo?
Parking options vary along the different accesses and spaces close to the sea can fill early in July and August. We do not publish one fixed price because we did not find a single official 2026 municipal rate applying to every parking area: check signs and meters locally.
Is there a shuttle to Torre Lapillo in 2026?
Yes. Porto Cesareo’s municipal shuttle runs from 13 June to 20 September 2026. Line 2 connects the town and coast road with Torre Lapillo; a single ride costs €1.00 and the day ticket €2.50, subject to any later service updates.
Is there an accessible beach service at Torre Lapillo?
Yes. IO POSSO operates a free accessible beach service in Via Paganini for people with motor disabilities. In 2026 it is open from 14 June to 13 September, 9:30–19:00, with four places; telephone booking is compulsory on 351 5276897.
Are there bars and services near the public beach?
It depends on the section. Torre Lapillo is an inhabited resort with beach clubs and businesses along the coast, but on some public stretches it is better to arrive with water and everything you need.
When is Torre Lapillo less crowded?
Early morning is the most practical choice in peak summer. If you can choose the month, June and September are generally calmer than the central weeks of August.
What should I bring?
For a public section: sun protection, water, sunscreen, a hat and light equipment. Water shoes are normally not needed on the sandy stretches.
