Fontanelle has a long pale sandy beach overlooking the Ionian Sea, with free stretches alternating with beach businesses.

Litorale di Ugento Park

The Litorale di Ugento Regional Natural Park was established by Regional Law no. 13 of 2007 and covers about 1,600 hectares.

From the sea inland it includes sandy and rocky shores, dunes, wet back-dune areas, coastal basins, woodland, Mediterranean scrub and olive groves.

The basins and Visitor Centre

The basins behind the beach were created from the 1930s onwards to reclaim former marshland.

The Park Visitor Centre is located in Fontanelle and hosts information, educational and participatory activities.
