Punta Prosciutto belongs to the Municipality of Porto Cesareo, in the Province of Lecce, close to the border with the Province of Taranto. The coast lies between Torre Colimena to the north and Torre Lapillo to the south.

The beach is mainly free public beach, with a number of beach clubs, and is characterised by pale soft sand, coastal dunes, Mediterranean scrub and generally shallow water. The landscape is part of the Palude del Conte e Duna Costiera Regional Nature Reserve.

Punta Prosciutto lies within the Municipality of Porto Cesareo, in the Province of Lecce, close to the border with the Province of Taranto. Heading north you reach Torre Colimena, while to the south the coast continues towards Torre Castiglione and Torre Lapillo.

The coastline is part of the Palude del Conte e Duna Costiera Regional Nature Reserve, established in 2006 and lying entirely within the Municipality of Porto Cesareo. The reserve includes the Palude del Conte – Dune di Punta Prosciutto site, code IT9150027.

Punta Prosciutto also marks the northern boundary of the Porto Cesareo Marine Protected Area, which continues south along the coasts of the municipalities of Porto Cesareo and Nardò.
