Lido dell’Ancora: what to know before you go
The old Salentissimo page described two small sandy inlets among rocks, especially popular with local families. This guide clearly separates the free public beach from the private business of the same name and adds cautious information on access, seabed and services.
Two small free coves between sand and rocks
Lido dell’Ancora is not one continuous large beach: the historic spot consists of two small natural inlets where sand lies between low rocks. The amount of sand and the shape of the shoreline can change after storms.
Good to know
If you want to stay on the sand, arrive reasonably early: space is much more limited than on Sant’Isidoro’s main beach.
The name can be confusing
This page is about the cove and free public beach historically known as Lido dell’Ancora. A private food and beach business with the same name also operates in the area: its services are not automatically part of the free beach.
To find your way
When checking directions or reviews, make sure they refer to the public cove rather than the private business.
Mixed seabed of sand and rock
In front of the small sandy areas, entering the water can be easier, while rocks and stones dominate along the sides. It would be misleading to describe the whole cove as uniformly sandy or equally deep everywhere.
Before entering
Check the exact spot and wear water shoes if you plan to move near the rocks.
Families: a local tradition, but little space
The historic page noted that local families regularly used this spot. The small sandy areas can be convenient, but rocks on the sides and limited space require more attention than on a large sandy beach.

Choose the easiest sandy entry and always check wind, waves and actual depth before swimming.
Access from the Via Lido dell’Ancora area
The cove lies just south of Sant’Isidoro, along the coastal stretch served by Via Lido dell’Ancora. It is an urbanised and well-known area, but sea access points can be narrow and may change over time.

Use only permitted access points and paths; do not cross private property to reach the water.
Parking: do not assume you can stop beside the cove
We do not have current confirmation of a public car park dedicated exclusively to the two inlets. In summer, spaces along local roads can fill quickly.
Practical tip
Arrive early, follow road signs and never block accesses, carriageways or private spaces.
Bars and food nearby, but the cove remains public
Private businesses operate very close by, including the business also called Lido dell’Ancora. This makes the area more convenient than an isolated cove, but opening times, services and access to those businesses can change.
Still come prepared
Bring water and what you need for the free beach, and check that nearby businesses are open before relying on them.
Small inlets, but no guarantee against wind and waves
The enclosed shape of the coast can make some spots calmer in certain conditions, but exposure, waves and currents can change during the day. A small cove is not automatically safe in strong winds.
Before swimming
Watch the sea for a few minutes and choose a simple entry and exit point.
The old platform should not be treated as a diving facility
The old Salentissimo page documented a concrete diving platform on the low rocks, destroyed by a strong storm in 2020. Today that historical detail should not be read as an invitation to dive from rocks or remains of structures.
Safety
Do not dive without checking depth, submerged obstacles, wave action and how you will get back out.
Accessibility: no specific assisted service verified
For this small cove we have no current confirmation of a walkway to the water, beach wheelchair or dedicated assistance. Sand, rocks and narrow accesses may make the route less straightforward.

A good choice for couples, families used to small coves and anyone wanting a compact free stretch of coast close to Sant’Isidoro’s services.

Anyone looking for a long all-sand beach, guaranteed parking beside the towel, already verified assisted access or lots of room even on the busiest days.

Compare Sant’Isidoro’s main beach or an equipped beach establishment in the area.
What to bring
Water, sunscreen, a light parasol, towel and water shoes. A mask can be useful for looking at the mixed seabed near the rocks when the sea is calm.
Travel light
Space is limited: avoid bulky equipment and always keep access routes clear.
