The coast and beach
The Lido Conchiglie coastline alternates sandy sections and rocky areas. The main beach lies between the built-up area, coastal vegetation and the Ionian Sea.
To the south the coast continues through Padula Bianca, with beaches, pine woods, free stretches and beach establishments.
A locality between two territories
Lido Conchiglie has a particular administrative and historical setting. The Municipality of Sannicola identifies it as one of its hamlets and localities, while the Municipality of Gallipoli manages services and works along the coast and in part of the built-up area.
For this reason, this guide treats Lido Conchiglie as a coastal locality connected with both municipalities.
The Abbey of San Mauro
On the ridge behind the locality stands the Abbey of San Mauro, evidence of the Basilian presence in the area.
The church preserves architectural elements and medieval frescoes and overlooks the landscape of the Bay of Gallipoli.
