For a free-beach spot arrive early and use established accesses without trampling dunes or vegetation.
The older description associated it with “Lido Conchiglie - Sannicola”. Sannicola Municipality itself explains that Rivabella, Padula Bianca and Lido Conchiglie were excluded from its municipal boundaries. Padula Bianca lies on the Gallipoli shoreline just south of Lido Conchiglie.
For orientation think: Santa Maria al Bagno → Lido Conchiglie → Padula Bianca → Rivabella → Gallipoli.
Along Rivabella-Padula Bianca, free sections alternate with beach establishments. Services may be some distance from the free areas and depend on the seasonal business chosen.
Decide whether you want independence or facilities before arriving; what you need to carry changes accordingly.
Current local tourism information describes the Rivabella-Padula Bianca seabed as mainly sandy and gently shelving close to shore, with some low-rock stretches farther north.
With children stay in the sector you can assess directly and always check waves, currents and actual depth that day.
Sand, generally gentle entry and a calmer atmosphere than Gallipoli’s nightlife-oriented beaches make Padula Bianca a practical family choice.
With small children, morning is usually best for heat, parking and choice of space.
The beach is reached from Gallipoli’s northern coastal area through Padula Bianca streets and pedestrian beach accesses. Dunes and vegetation are part of the coastal environment, not shortcuts.

If you choose the free beach bring water, shade and the essentials rather than relying on a neighbouring lido.
Gallipoli Municipality has recent “Accessible Beach” measures, but we found no public certification allowing the whole Padula Bianca shoreline to be described as barrier-free. Sand, path surfaces and distance from parking matter.
For wheelchair use, reduced mobility or a heavy pushchair, verify the specific entrance and any seasonal assistance before leaving.
Groups of young people do come here, but the northern coast generally feels more residential and beach-focused than the continuous nightlife atmosphere of Baia Verde.
Good for a beach day with friends; for music and beach clubs as the main goal, other Gallipoli areas may suit better.
Padula Bianca is well known and can become crowded on weekends and in August, especially near the easiest access points.
Go before the middle of the day or try late afternoon for more space and softer light.
A sandy shallow-looking seabed does not mean the sea is always calm. Wind, waves and currents can quickly change bathing conditions.
Check flags and lifeguard advice where present; in rough water do not rely on shallow depth alone.
In 2026 Gallipoli Municipality commissioned and paid for forestry safety works in the Rivabella-Padula Bianca pine area. This is a concrete recent update, not a general beach closure.
Respect any temporary barriers, works or signs in the pine woods and stay out of closed sections.
In November 2025 the municipality recorded an assignment for sedimentological analysis of the coastal dune stretch historically known as Padula Bianca, showing attention to coastal dynamics and protection.
Do not walk over dunes or use coastal vegetation as a place for towels, umbrellas or rubbish.
Families, couples and groups looking for sand, Ionian water, a choice between free and equipped beach and an atmosphere less focused on nightlife.
Especially practical if you stay around Lido Conchiglie, Padula Bianca, Rivabella or northern Gallipoli.
Anyone expecting guaranteed parking beside the beach in August, full facilities in the free section or uniform accessibility along the whole shoreline.
If these are essential, choose a specific access or establishment whose features you have verified.
Water, sun protection, a hat, shade for the free beach, children’s beach toys and a bag to take rubbish away.
In high season travel light: parking and the walk to the sand are easier.
