The resort and its coastline
San Pietro in Bevagna is one of the main seaside resorts in the Manduria area. Its coastline is mostly sandy, with free beaches, urban accesses and seasonal services. The central area is busy in summer, so check traffic restrictions and parking arrangements before travelling.
The mouth of the River Chidro
The Chidro is a short spring-fed river that reaches the sea at San Pietro in Bevagna. Its spring water is cooler than the sea and creates a distinctive environment, making the river mouth one of the main natural landmarks on Manduria’s coast.
Tower, sanctuary and Roman wreck
In the heart of the resort, the sanctuary of Saint Peter stands beside the coastal tower. Offshore, near the Chidro, lies the cargo of a Roman ship: twenty-three white-marble sarcophagi on a sandy seabed at shallow depth, studied by archaeologists since the twentieth century.
